We are officially back from Gen Con! I am still catching up on all of the things but the cafe is back in full swing.
Just before we left we hosted a Company Spotlight with Smirk & Dagger Games. Curt came out and taught some of our players how to play a few of their amazing games, including previews of BOOoop.
Gen Con was a good time. A bit stressful. If you follow our TikTok you may have seen our housing debacle. But it all worked out in the end.
We went on Wednesday for Trade Day to participate in seminars and industry events. The workshops I took on Wednesday were Raising Staff Morale Through Gaming (looking for tips for our employee engagement events), Creating an RPG Summer Camp (getting a LOT of ideas for next year), Building Up Your Gaming Community (apparently we have that but I got a lot of great tips for keep ours a healthy community), Discord DIY Community (Thanks to Jad we already have a discord, but I received some ideas and tips for structuring things and sometime soon we'll likely be doing a little rearranging in there. Shaun took a seminar for building a Magic the Gathering club for kids. Thursday I learn about creating an RPG campaign in an hour, and Networking with Social Anxiety & Imposter Syndrome. Connections were made with many publishing companies and other people in the industry. I got a lot of new ideas for events and ways to bring our community closer together. And we came home with 68 new board games we're very excited to share with you.
Speaking of new games, join us tomorrow, Saturday, August 12th, for our New Games Day. From 11am-5pm Shaun and I will be showcasing, demoing, and helping players learn how to play many of our new games.
Blood on the Clocktower is back this week. Jay and Vic will be running our circles. New players are always welcome.
Sunday we're hosting our last live music event for the foreseeable future. A fan-favorite, Hannah Delilah is back from 4pm-6pm. We are also hosting our August Pop-Up bakery, Banana Pudding Twist. You may recognize them from their flagship location at the Fox Valley Mall.
Next week we're celebrating my dad's birthday. He would have been 67. For every Wizard's Brew sold between August 13th and August 19th, $1 will be donated to The School of Rock.
Tuesday is Cozy Quiz Trivia from 7pm-9pm. If you're unfamiliar with the structure of Cozy Quiz Trivia, it's 2 rounds of general knowledge, 1 music round, 1 fae deal, a handout, and a final. The Fae Deal is the real tricky bit though. Every week one team gets to choose the subject for the Fae Deal round of the following week. Last week, the team that got to choose, selected me. Apparently, I am the subject of a round of trivia for next Tuesday. As that team is full of friends who've known me for 15-20 years... that doesn't really seem fair to everyone else. So, this Sunday at 8pm CST, I'm going to be in a voice channel on our discord hosting an AMA (ask me anything). If you're going to be at trivia, maybe you'll get some insight into some trivia answers. If you haven't already, join our discord!
Last minute thing, I got my hair done by the very talented, Haley Barr at Salon David Anthony. Check out Haley on Instagram or Book directly HERE
