Critical Grind Inc started in 2018 as a tabletop gaming events company. While those are still services we offer, see the "Extra Services" tab, we have since expanded into a board game coffee shop.

Dana has had a life-long dream of opening a coffee shop. This, combined with her love of board games, has created the perfect storm.

Shaun has been actively playing tabletop board games since 1998 and has a knack for learning new games quickly. His favorite games are strategy-based.

Dana (she/her)
Owner/President
Dana is an owner, runs the day-to-day operations, marketing, customer relations, scheduling, and is happy to help you find your next favorite game.
Ash (he/they)
Barista/Host
Ash is also referred to as "The Alchemist." When he's not working on new flavor combinations at The Grind, he's usually here playing Magic, or working at Hair Cuttery in Crest Hill. Check out his secret menu item: Razmatazz Toast
Rudy (he/him)
Barista/Host & Game Master
Rudy is not only a great barista on our team, but an excellent Game Master, and becoming a Lorcana Tournament Judge.
Shaun (he/his)
Owner/Vice President / DM
Shaun is an owner and mostly works behind the scenes. Though he helps schedule themed nights, game competitions, and offers his services as a DM for Hire.
Noah (he/him)
Barista/Host
Noah can often be found closing at the cafe. On days he's not working, you can sometimes find him chilling in a corner on his gaming laptop or playing Magic. Check out his secret menu item: Yule Tide Chai
Saphira (she/her)
Host/Helper
Saphira is the daughter of Dana and Shaun. She's enjoys teaching kids how to play games. She can also be found at the cafe' wiping down tables and organizing board games.
Lauren (she/her)
Barista/Host
Lauren is a Cold Brew enthusiast and a boy mom. She works hard for her baby and you'll see her slinging coffee various days.
