About the Role

At Critical Grind, a Game Master is someone who knows how to play a majority of our games, or has the ability to learn and comprehend the games quickly enough, and can then teach new players how the game is played. While we will occasionally have Game Masters in the cafe, a majority of their time is spent at different locations around the Chicagoland area running board gaming events. We primarily host events in libraries, breweries, and employee engagement events, though we have been present at local gaming or comic conventions or hired for private parties.

Game Masters help get people into games with new people, if that is their wish. They also coordinate and moderate social deception games as requested.


Key Responsibilities:
Arrive and Set up for the event in an efficient and timely manner.
Deliver excellent hospitality to every person that is involved the in the event.
Keep all areas of the space professional, clean, and organized.

Communicate any and all relevant information to Critical Grind Owner and fellow Game Masters in a respectful manner.
Follow written and verbal instructions efficiently and execute these instructions.
Follow all company tools and systems.
Shows enthusiasm for Critical Grind's support of our communities, and be knowledgeable of promotions.
Follow health, safety, and sanitation guidelines with care.
Be efficient, use/prioritize time wisely.
Using problem solving skills.
Be able and willing to go above and beyond when the team needs it.


Additional Job Requirements:
Able to work a 5 hour shift on your feet.
Able to lift 50 pounds consecutively.


Compensation:
$15.00 an hour plus tips with incremental, merit based raises.
20% Employee Discount on Board Game purchases.
Negotiated finders fee or percentage of event contracts you bring in.

About the Company

We are Shorewood's first and only Board Game Cafe. We have been hosting board gaming events throughout the Chicagoland area since 2018.

Our goal as a company is to bring people together through board gaming. We provide an open and inclusive environment for all people to feel safe and to have fun.
